Creating a Clean, Cozy Home Atmosphere
If you walked into my house a year ago, you would have found a designer scented candle in almost every room. I loved coming home after a busy day, lighting a candle, and making the house smell warm and cozy.
However, over time, my family started noticing that heavy artificial scents weren't agreeing with us. Whenever we burned commercial candles or used plug-in fresheners, my husband would complain of scratchy throats and mild sinus discomfort, and the heavy fragrance felt cloying after an hour. When I looked into home fragrance, I realized how many commercial options rely on heavy synthetic perfume oils, paraffin wax, and chemical binders that leave lingering soot in closed living spaces. I packed up our synthetic room sprays and artificial candles, but I still missed having a warm, welcoming fragrance in our home—especially in the evenings after dinner.
A friend from my weekly yoga class recommended I look into natural agarwood. She explained that real agarwood comes from the resinous heartwood of wild trees and doesn't require synthetic fragrances or chemical binders. She introduced me to Still11, a brand that uses pure Vietnamese agarwood resin bound with a natural plant powder.
I ordered a box to see how my family would respond. The evening it arrived, I placed a stick on our coffee table while my husband was reading on the couch. I lit the tip, let the flame catch for a few seconds, and gently blew it out.
We watched a thin ribbon of pale smoke drift upward in the lamp light. Instead of an overpowering perfume smell, our living room gradually filled with a sophisticated, warm, woody aroma reminiscent of a quiet spa retreat. Sitting there, I noticed how cozy and relaxing the space felt—there was no harsh smoke, no throat irritation, and no heavy fragrance lingering uncomfortably in the air.
My husband looked up and said, "What is that? It smells amazing in here and feels really light."
Now, whenever we have friends over for dinner, lighting a stick of Still11 is the first thing I do. Last weekend, two of our neighbors came over, and within ten minutes both of them asked where that wonderful woody scent was coming from. I ended up sharing a couple of sticks for them to try at home.
Huge thanks to Still11 for making it possible to keep our home cozy, inviting, and fresh. How do you like to create a relaxing atmosphere at home? Let me know in the comments!
